PM Confirms “Wedding Announcement” is Old News

BREAKING NEWS: Prime Minister Hun Sen has confirmed to EAC News that a voice message of his, being circulated widely by Khmer media outlets on Thursday afternoon, in which he is heard to say that weddings can go ahead in the country, is in fact an old message, dating back to 18 November 2020.

He has confirmed there has been no new announcement regarding weddings in the country, which are currently banned under existing preventative measures governing gatherings of more than 50 people.

In response to a question from EAC News regarding the voice message, the Prime Minister says, “There will be legal consequences for those who share such confusing information”. The Prime Minister confirmed that the voice message dated back to last November when he announced an end to the community outbreak which was sparked by a visit by a foreign dignitary.
